I Spy Bottles

After finding these all over the internet, I decided to make my own. My poor hubby was getting quite aggravated with the “empty” bottle stash on the kitchen counter. I had to be resourceful and hide them in a basket. (He He He)

After gathering all of the necessary supplies

  • empty bottles
  • rice
  • food coloring
  • rubbing alcohol
  • ziploc baggies
  • alphabet letter cubes
  • mini buttons/objects

I was ready to color my rice. I simply divided my rice into baggies. ( I didn’t measure I just eyeballed it!) I added 2 capfuls of rubbing alcohol to each biggie then adding a few drops of food coloring. I  used the neon colors from McCormick. I zipped the baggies closed and mixed it up- It was done within seconds. I opened my baggies up and allowed them to air dry over night.

I was ready to begin filling my bottles. I made a makeshift funnel out of a piece of paper. It worked wonders! Halfway through I added my alphabet letter beads.

IMG_0657

I added more rice and left about an inch at the top of the bottle. (see below)IMG_0637

IMG_8057

I made two different recording sheets as I plan on making both letter and object bottles. For the letter bottles, students will simply record the letters they find. I plan on copying these front and back so they will use two different bottle and find 24 different letters. For the object bottles students will record the initial/beginning sound for each object they find.

You can download the {“free” recording sheets here}I spy bottle

I used VOSS water bottles- I created labels for the top of the bottle I used the Avery 1.5 stickers. I am using the number labels for my alphabet bottles and the alphabet labels for my object bottles.

 {You can download them here for free.}

I can’t wait for my kiddos to try this new center. I think I may add magnifying glasses to the center for them to use too!!

Sorry It has been so long…

Hi Everyone- it seems like it has been an eternity since I have added anything new to my blog. I have no excuses other than…Can you say “retail therapy”…

Yes, I have been doing quite a bit of shopping. My mom is home and we have been hitting the stores. I am one of those gals that gets excited even to hit my favorite spots. (Target “dollar spot”, the Dollar Tree, Dollar General, TJ MAxx, DSW, and Abercrombie)

A few of my Target Dollar Spot Finds for Halloween

Target Finds

I have also been pinning like a “mad woman”. I don’t know what I ever did before pinterest. I find myself excited to hop out of bed grab my cup of joe and pin till it’s time to get ready for work. I head to work in the morning with a “spring” in my step because I am so excited about all the new things I found. (Although, I am a sped teacher, I do love sharing some of the ideas I find with my co-teachers)

I found this adorable candy corn puzzle match and created my own version because I could not find anywhere to print it out or buy it. I could only find the pictures of the student’s actually using the center.

Here is my version free for you to download:
