Pumpkins Galore and so much more!

Today, we began learning about pumpkins. There is just something about pumpkins that makes me smile… Is it the color? Oramge reminds me of my favorite team (Tennessee Volunteers). Image result for tennessee volunteers

Is it the smell? Make me think of all things pumpkin- Yum!! There is nothing like a fresh cup of joe with a ton of International Delight Pumpkin Spice Creamer- Sheer Heaven!!

Is it the pumpkins. Short or Tall, Skinny or Plump is there really an ugly pumpkin?

Maybe it’s simply the memories? Reminds me of all the trips to the pumpkin patch with my family. (Sweet memories always remain in your heart.)pumpkin patch

And so the lesson begins simply activiting their schema. What do they already know about pumpkins? So many kiddos got excited and many shared their stories about going to the pumpkin farm and a few shared the fact that they had their very own pumpkin patch. This was a perfect way to intro my book. One of my favorites for introducing the parts of a pumpkin and the pumpkin life cycle.

After reading the story, we began working on our interactive notebook pieces. Erica Bohrer has the best pumpkin interactive science notebook. It was perfect for today’s lesson. We used the parts of a pumpkin and the life cycle of a pumpkin pages. Thanks Erica!!.

Unity Day and Spookley

It’s Unity Day!!! All of the students were decked out in Orange. We ordered these shirts a few years ago. I just love them!! Perfect to celebrate Unity Day and show our support for National Bully Prevention Month. (Too bad I forgot mine today L, but it was nice to see other staff members around the building wearing them.)

We started our afternoon reading, Spookley, the Square Pumpkin I wanted to discuss words to describe Spookley.

I was inspired by a Pinterest photo from Teach it with Class from a few years ago to create an oversized Spookley to describe his characteristics.

This was a great extension to reinforce my previous adjective lessons. My kiddos loved coming up with different ways to describe Spookley.
My Spookley chart turned out a wee bit different but we still had a lot of fun.
We wrapped our day with an interactive book

Hello There!!!

Hey y’all. Hope all is well! It has been quite busy around here but I figured it was time for me to rejoin the blogging world. So many “new” things are happening and I am so excited to share some things with you.

First off let me say thank you all for the sweet messages. You guys really know how to fill a girls bucket. I know many of you follow me on instagram. You can follow me @mrsfresh2o (Just click the pick below) I have to admit I have been cheat blogging through instagram. Image result for instagram

Well, I guess it’s time to get back to reality. As many of you know I moved to first grade. This year, we adopted a new reading and language arts program. I have to admit that’s where I’ve been. Oh my word…I have been trying to get my feet to hit the ground, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening.

I have been creating weekly spelling activities. We are using the Journeys Spelling and Grammar, but as a team we decided we needed to assess on more than six (6) words every week, so we worked together and added a few more skill words to compile a list of fourteen (14) words for each skills. Here is a small glimpse of a few activities. It seems as the units grew so did the activities I created. I posted Lessons 1-22 on my TPT site individually and bundled the units too. I will be uploading lessons 23-30 as I create them. So if you are currently using the Journey’s Reading Program, you may want to check these out!
