2011-2012 Classroom Pics Take 1

I went to my classroom for the first time on August 6th to try and decide what I was going to do. (I moved into a new room due to space issues and I am now sharing with our school nurse. I love my new roomie!!) When I walked in this is what I saw. All I have to say is YIKES!!!!!! All of my stuff was moved from my old space to my new space during the summer.

After working for a few hours and moving bins, tables, shelves, etc “several” times I think I came up with a layout that would suit the needs of all my students.

Let the decorating begin….

Teacher Area (A work in progress)

The two taller (binder/book) shelves are from Target. The two smaller bookshelves behind desk are from Walmart. The baskets hanging behind the desk are Longaberger®. My “days of the week” (a.k.a Happy Days theme song) were cut out on my Cricut™

The jukebox was created by me using scrapbooking paper and trimmer border, plus a few hours of my time.

The clear paint can bins say “sweets and treats”

Sweets= Smarties And= Eraser Caps Treats=Candy Theme Pencils (target $$ spot)

I took this picture before I swapped out the rugrats clock (lol)

The Top 26 (a.k.a My Alphabet)

I created this using my Cricut

The Nifty Fifty

I love how this turned out!! I cut out the numbers using the cricut and the diamond shapes myself. The bins on the top shelf are from the dollar tree and the file folder bins on the 2nd and third shelf are from Big Lots. (Thanks Erica for letting me know Big Lots had great bins) The cans on the shelf say “green” highlighters and “pink” colored pencils. There are also two that hold my pencils “dull and sharp”

The is a portable divider wall (yucky blue) but I spruced it up by adding paper and border. The magnetic tray (completely pinterest inspired) This will be my math area. I will use the magnetic board to display our math concept for the week as well as any daily prompts etc. The magnetic letters were purchased at TJ Maxx. My food items were created using my cricut. The roller girl is a clip art image that I drew and made using scrapbook paper. (I will add more detail pictures when finished of my areas-Still a work in progress)

Many people ask about funding- The items in my room were all purchased by me except for the following the tables, chairs, tan wooden shelves, metal storage cabinet, and file cabinet. I am always planning my “nest” theme a year or so ahead so when I see things when I am out and about I pick them up and add them to my “bin” at home. I have two bins started for next year and the year after. It definitely does not happen overnight.

As I stated above this has been a work in progress and I am still working. My mom who is my biggest supporter and usually my right hand gal has only been able to give me moral support as she is tending to an injury with her right arm. We are doing great but definitely moving at a slower pace this year...

I will add more photos as I get my items hung up and labeled. I was going to keep my chalkboard open but have decided to cover it with paper and make it a bulletin board. Still looking for ideas... It is so hard because I am a special education resource teacher servicing student in K and 1. Any thoughts from my blogger friends?

  4. LOVE IT! I just finished my room and posted pics. It's my first time going all out with a theme, and I'm pretty happy with it. I think the Cricut might be calling my name. I think if I buy one, it's all over...
